W o u n d S t i c k® M e a s u r i n g S y s t e m
The WoundStick® Measuring System provides a method to accurately measure, document and monitor changes in all types of wounds. Accurate measurements, documentation and monitoring provides valuable information regarding the future direction of all wounds. This information is invaluable. It is the only way to determine the effectiveness of various treatment approaches. It is the only way to evaluate the success of the changes in diet, the dressings, the turning and the equipment used, such as low air loss beds, air or water mattresses. It is the only way to determine if the wound is breaking down or if it is healing. Accurate measurements provide the facts that can force changes in the treatment approaches. These changes are important in the wound healing process. These measurement facts are so important they should be billed as part of the wound healing procedure. They can save time, money and healing time for the patient. The recommended billing charges will vary depending on the detail of the wound measurements provided with the WoundStick® Measuring System.
WIDTH,
LENGTH and DEPTH of a WOUND
If you want to know the present width and length of a small wound, use the
10cm WoundStick® (WS10). For the
width and length of a large wound, use the 20cm WoundStick®
(WS20). In order to determine the depth of the small or large
wound use the DermaLevel© with the WS10 or the WS20.
BODY
MEASURING TAPES
Head To Heel Measuring Tapes determine the height of contracted or sitting
patient. Prevents cross contamination.
The Body Tape is used to measure all parts of the body including edema, scars and post operative wounds. Body Tapes are used to measure surgical supports and prevent cross contamination. They are available in sterile and non-sterile packaging.
Baby Tape Measure's a baby's height, head circumference and body parts. Use to measure pregnant women and prevents cross contamination.
PHOTOGRAPHING
A WOUND
To photograph a wound and show the location, width, length, and depth of
the wound in the photograph, the WS10 or @W20 are designed to "stand
out" in a photograph. If you want to also show pertinent facts about
the wound in the photograph, just add the PhotoFacts
product to either the WS10 or WS20.
The WoundStick® Measuring System is designed to give meaning, understanding and true perception to a wound photo. It provides accurate information about the location, the width, the length, the depth, lab details and even the undermining that exist in a particular wound. It makes the photograph a true picture of the wound as it is, where it is and how the wound is expected to progress or breakdown.
MEASURING
and DOCUMENTING UNDERMINING
Another important part evaluating the wound is measuring the undermined
areas of a wound. "The WoundStick® Tunneler is our favorite product",
says Ian Aman, PT of Vencor-Oaks at Avon, PT, "We have used it for
the last year and a half. It is not as messy as the cellophane product and
we find it to be more accurate. It's especially good for depth ... before
using the Tunneler, we had to use the Q-tip... even a wisp of cotton that
got into the wound during the inflammatory stage would keep the wound in
that stage. The WoundStick® Tunneler
is the only product we use. I've even shared this product with our outpatient
facility."
Our current customers are getting accurate undermining information by using the WoundStick® Tunneler. Desiree Diocson, PT of Springfield Health Care Center, tells us "We love this product ... all of us (in the PT department) do. We actually get the depth of the undermining in centimeters. We can document the progress of the wound, identify the depth and see the healing progress of the wound every week".
As Desiree stated above, the WoundStick® Tunneler is used to measure width, length, depth and undermining. It is designed to be used with the DermaSquare© and the DermaLevel© to provide the most accurate information available. Even if your facility determines a photograph is not necessary, the Tunneler, with DermaSquare© and DermaLevel©, is a complete wound measuring combination of products.
If you want to document by photo and measure undermining, it is suggested that you use WS1O or WS20, with the Tunneler, and accompanied by PhotoFacts.
OUTLINE,
DOCUMENT, MEASURE DEPTH, CALCULATE VOLUME AND SPACE OF A WOUND
USMS, Inc. is also excited to tell you about two new products; the DermaLevel©and
the WoundMap. The DermaMap documents the outline of a wound
site or other skin sites. The WoundMap is used to outline, document,
measure depth and calculate the volume or the space a wound occupies! This
is a product that enables wound care professionals to obtain information
that was difficult to obtain in the past.
The DermaMap is best used at the beginning of the treatment of small wounds. As the wound changes, record those changes periodically with the DermaMap . This product outlines body wounds, stoma, moles, fistula, incisions and other spots, marks, protuberances on the skin. -It is used to monitor and document skin sites. The DermaMap includes a tracing grid window and a 3 part document for recording the outline and measurements.
The WoundMap is used to outline body wounds, measure width, length, depth and calculate the volume or space of a wound. It is perfect for documenting and monitoring wound sites. Use the WoundMap at the beginning of the treatment of stage three and stage four wounds. The WoundMap includes a tracing grid window and a 3 part document for recording the outline and the measurements of the wound.
Whatever your needs are in wound measurement, the WoundStick® Measuring System is designed to meet those needs. The products can be used individually or in combination to provide you with the accurate facts you need to heal your patients.
The WoundStick® Measuring System provides accurate information about the future of the wound.
