Wound Stick® Tunneler

The Wound Stick® Tunneler is a flat flexible and sterile 15 cm measuring device designed to measure undermining in a pressure wound. The flat design allows for easy insertion into the undermined cavity of a pressure wound. The flexible design allows a wound specialist to feel and see resistance when the Tunneler is pressing against healthy tissue within the undermined pressure wound.

Description: Includes 20 individually packaged sterile Tunneler, DermaSquare© & DermaLevel©. These 3 product packages are single use wound measuring devices for measuring width, length, depth and undermining of wounds.

About Measuring Undermining

Another important part evaluating the wound is measuring the undermined areas of a wound. "The WoundStick® Tunneler" is our favorite product", says Ian Arnan, PT of Vencor-Oaks at Avon, PT, "We have used it for the last year and a half. It is not as messy as the cellophane product and we
find it to be more accurate. It's especially good for depth…before using the Tunneler, we had to use the Q-tip… even a wisp of cotton that got into the wound during the inflammatory stage would keep the wound in that stage. Step 1: Hold the Wound Stick Tunneler between the thumb and the index finger at the 10 cm mark of the Tunneler.
Step 2: Insert the Tunneler into the undermined cavity. Continue to move your thumb and index finger back toward the 15 cm mark while inserting the Tunneler.
Step 3: When resistance is felt or the Tunneler bends, stop and measure the centimeter depth of the undermined wound. This centimeter measurement should be documented at the time of the measurement, showing the patient's name, date, depth and clock location of the undermined depth.
